WHAT is the Shopportunity? 

We found some ways to combine our two favorite things, shopping and finding a cure for diabetes!  Across the country, happy shoppers have found a number of ways to make their passion pay. 

WHERE can I have one? 

Anywhere you like to shop, dine, or shop online! Some successful events have been:

  • Dining for Diabetes – restaurant asks patrons to make a donation on top of their bill to JDRF.  Make a night of it by getting your fellow type 1 families together and dining out as a group. 
  • Home Party –- Tupperware, Southern Living and Pampered Chef (just to name a few) all have charity fundraising programs– contact your local rep to inquire.
  • Small local Vendors/Artisans – may be willing to donate a percentage of sales or proceeds for a specific item to benefit JDRF.
  • Retail Shopping Night – have a GNO (girls night out) party at a local clothing store or salon that is willing to donate a percentage of sales to JDRF.

HOW MUCH time will it take? 

Organizing a Shopportunity is one of the least time-consuming fundraisers we have found.  While the time of the actual event can vary, depending on the type, the set-up is at a minimum and the fun is at a maximum! 

Planning:  1-2 hours

Recruitment/Fundraising:  3 hours

Event Day:  3-5 hours

Wrap –up:  1-2 hours

Total average hours:  8-12 hours

And of course most of those hours will be spent shopping or dining…and talking about shopping or dining!
