One of the simplest, most successful ways that people raise money for JDRF is through small, volunteer- run walk events. Begun originally in areas without an official JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes nearby, these have adapted and grown over the years to accommodate schools, civic groups, day camps…anyone seeking to have a fun event for a great cause.
Picking the location is easy! Just consider what type of Stroll you want to have. It can be as simple as walking around your neighborhood with your family or you can have an event that involves the community at a park or recreation area. Here are some ideas that others have shared with us:
We at JDRF know our volunteers are passionate about our cause, and generous with their time. But life goes on! Often it is the busiest people who take on the most—that’s why they are busy in the first place! While we know that a Volunteer Walk can take as much or as little time, we want to provide you with a realistic expectation of what an average event might take:
Planning: 5-10 hours
Recruitment/Fundraising: 3 hours
Walk Day: 2-6 hours
Wrap –up: 1-2 hours
Remember, many hands make light work, and the more volunteers you have helping, the more fun you will have!
